Barry Ernest is a former investigative reporter, press secretary, and speech writer. He served in the US Navy as a radar man aboard the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. After his military service, he earned a degree in journalism and communications from Point Park University in Pittsburgh. Ernest worked as a features writer and investigative reporter for the York (PA) Sunday News and the Syracuse (NY) Herald-American. Like most reporters, he began his career covering muggings, murders, and other local crimes before becoming the Federal Court beat reporter. After his work in local news, Ernest served as press secretary and director of communications for the state of Pennsylvania.
Passionate about finding the truth in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Ernest began his search for key witness Victoria Elizabeth Adams in 1967. The result of his research is documented in his book, The Girl on the Stairs: The Search for a Missing Witness to the JFK Assassination, which concludes that Lee Harvey Oswald was not on the sixth floor when the shots were fired on November 22, 1963. A frequent lecturer on the topic, Ernest is the recipient of the 2011 Mary Ferrell Pioneer Award, a national honor presented for a lifetime of searching for the truth in the event that shaped our nation. He resides with his wife in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he continues to write about and research the Kennedy assassination.
