Shelley Ann Jackson, an award-winning author and illustrator, teaches at Texas State University and the Art School at the Austin Museum of Art. As an illustrator, her work has appeared in several newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times. Her first picture book, Little Lions, Bull Baiters, and Hunting Hounds: A History of Dog Breeds, was awarded the 2008 gold medal in juvenile nonfiction by ForeWord Magazine.
Jackson, who also collaborates with her husband, is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and of the Writers’ League of Texas. She is the founder and moderator of the Girllustrators. In addition to receiving the honor of a research grant in nonfiction from SCBWI, she was also nominated for the Beacon of Freedom Award and the Red Cedar Book Award.
Jackson graduated with a BFA in communication design from the University of North Texas and MFA in illustration from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. Later, she received a graduate certificate in the picture book from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Born in New Jersey, Jackson grew up in Texas. After living in New York and Colorado for fifteen years, she and her husband, Jeff, returned to the Lone Star State. She lives with her husband and daughter in Austin, Texas. |
