Anthony V. Margavio is a scholar in residence in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Southeastern Louisiana University. He is the author of dozens of scholarly and creative publications, and his articles have appeared in a wide variety of journals including Sociological Perspectives, Italian Americana, and Southeast Louisiana Historical Association Papers.
Margavio worked as an associate professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of New Orleans for more than two decades, where he also served as an advisor in the General Studies Program. He has studied and written about race, ethnicity, and cultural identity particularly in Louisiana since the 1970s, and at the request of the Italian American Federation, he constructed and analyzed a survey of a national sample of Italian Americans in 1988.
After earning a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of New Orleans (formerly Louisiana State University in New Orleans), Margavio went on to earn a PhD in sociology from Louisiana State University. Before joining the faculty at Southeastern Louisiana University, he served as an associate professor in the sociology departments of Louisiana's Loyola University in New Orleans and Nicholls State University in Thibodaux. The father of eight grown children, Margavio lives in Covington, Louisiana.
