Native New Orleanian Yvonne Spear Perret grew up in a shotgun single in the Gentilly area. She won a full four-year scholarship to Tulane University, where she graduated magna cum laude, with a BA in English.
Perret taught mathematics and English for more than twenty years in New Orleans schools, including Isidore Newman School, where she completed her career as the interim principal. In addition to editing college textbooks, she served as the editor for a regional bridal magazine.
As a freelance writer for several years, Perret contributed articles to such publications as the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the Christian Science Monitor,FamilyFun Magazine,Gambit, and New Orleans Magazine, among others. She enjoys writing about New Orleans—the city she proudly calls home—and shares her enthusiasm with her readers.
