Robert Collins, a resident of Kansas, is passionate about his region. He has
authored several books on the history and sightseeing possibilities of Kansan
railroads, including A Railfan's Guide to Kansas Attractions and Ghost
Railroads of Kansas and continues to write articles on history and science
fiction for several magazines.
Collins' biography, General James G. Blunt, thoroughly
examines the life of General Blunt, the only Kansan to achieve the rank of major
general during the Civil War. From General Blunt's success and infamy during the
Civil War, when he was “accused of corruption, womanizing, and egotistical
tirades,” to his subsequent place in history books, Collins provides the details
with commentary.
In his latest book, Jim Lane: Scoundrel, Statesman, Kansan,Collins explores the life of another influential figure during Kansas's
Territorial period. This book addresses Lane's military and political career and
his controversial representation as a “wild man” and fanatic who was responsible
for turning the Territory into “Bleeding Kansas.”
